This is Firdaus, a fourth-generation Orang Laut descendent from Pulau Semakau. Orang Laut was started with the fundamental idea of sharing my family’s stories about our life on Pulau Semakau. Our first post went out on Instagram in the month of August 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Looking back, Orang Laut is a little silver lining for me, it has granted me a space to reach out to other individuals during a difficult time.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably still staying safe and for that, we are thankful. And we are especially thankful to you for joining us on this journey from the start. It has been quite a ride! We are looking forward to sharing with you our latest initiatives and volunteering opportunities.

For now, we will be taking a short Raya break. Stay tuned, k?
